Etherium (ETH) Istanbul Hardfork Includes Gas Cost Savings

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin tweeted last week that ETH developers were considering reducing the cost of gas from 68 per byte to a quarter of the cost of call data (where transmission data is stored on transaction requests on call data in etherium).

The upgrade will be made at the EIP 2028, which is sheduled for October.

Vitalik agreed that it could reduce call data gas costs continuously in the future, but pointed out that this could potentially create larger blocks which may cause network delay.

Meanwhile, Etherium developer, Tim Beiko said on Twitter that introduction of ProgPoW (new algorithm that will increase the efficiency of GPU-based mining) may not take place if Istanbul's hard fork continues, citing various reasons. However, he added that if questions are resolved even before hard fork in October, there is a possibility that network upgrades that are exclusively for ProgPow will take place in part.
