97% of Gamers Want To Own, Trade In-Game Items

Midnight Society, the innovative new AAA gaming studio co-founded by internet streaming star Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm, and Polygon Studios, a hub for Web3 development, marketing, strategy, and technical support, today release a joint survey revealing overwhelming support for digital ownership and tradability of in-game items.

Midnight Society and Polygon Studios plan to construct a game publishing platform on the Polygon blockchain where players can trade their in-game items freely without incurring high transaction fees or negatively impacting the environment.

The studio began these efforts with the launch of their NFT Founders Access Passes, granting the holder exclusive benefits, including access to pre-alpha “Snapshot” game builds, voting rights on critical decisions, merch drops, studio events, and a one-of-a-kind “Variant” PFP.

The Founders Pass program received over 400,000 applications in just seven days.

The results of a survey that polled the 400,000 applicants revealed that 97.5% of gamers desired the option to own in-game items outright and believed they should be able to collect, upgrade, sell and trade the items they purchase or win in the game world. With current restrictions in Web2 games rendering this impossible — and many gamers resorting to black markets for Player-to-Player transactions — Web3 gaming offers a safe, transparent, and uncensorable solution.

Midnight Society combines the high-profile status and game development experience of Dr Disrespect with the knowledge and experience of game industry veterans Robert “fourzerotwo” Bowling and Quinn DelHoyo, who worked on such games as Call of Duty, Halo, and Star Wars and serial entrepreneur Sumit Gupta, whose leadership experience includes Bash Gaming, Boom.tv, and G2 Esports. An undertaking this massive requires the best minds in the industry. Midnight Society has been on recruitment spree and already attracted a 25+ powerhouse talent with ~200 years combined game industry experience in AAA and indie game development including Halo, Call Of Duty, Valorant, Fortnite, Destiny, Gears of War, Elder Scrolls,and more from the worlds of crypto, marketing, and esports.

Midnight Society opted to build on Polygon due to its low fees, high throughput, scalability, and environmental viability. Polygon has already achieved carbon-neutral status, meaning any transaction, application, or NFT created on the Polygon blockchain incurs no carbon output. Polygon has pledged to attain carbon-negative status by the end of 2022, by which point it will take more carbon out of the atmosphere than it puts in.

Players of Midnight Society’s first game, a first-person shooter codenamed “Project Moon,” will have the option to participate in exclusive activities to own their accomplishments and creations without gaining an in-game advantage.

Polygon has already onboarded the majority of the top blockchain-based Web3 games and NFT projects on the market today, including the likes of Sandbox, Decentraland, Opensea, Decentral Games, and more. Polygon boasts 5x more gaming and NFT Dapps than any other chain outside of Ethereum.
