해커, 세계 최대 거래소 바이낸스에 비트코인 300개 요구

세계 최대 거래소 바이낸스는 오늘(8월 7일) 신원 불명의 해커로부터 바이낸스 거래소 유저 관련 KYC 데이터 10,000장의 사진을 보유하고 있다며 비트코인 300개를 요구하는 협박성 연락을 밝았다고 자사 웹사이트 공지사항을 통해서 밝혔다.

현재 익명성이 강한 한 개의 텔레그램 채널을 통해서 이와 관련된 개인 정보(KYC정보:사진, 여권 사본, ID)이 확산되고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

바이낸스 거래소는 이와 관련 해커의 협박에 굴복할 생각이 없다며 이미 사법부의 도움을 받아 사건 조사에 나서고 있는 상황이라고 말했다.

또한 해커가 보내 온 자료와 자사 시스템의 데이터와 비교할 때 모순점이 있다. 이 이미지들은 우리 시스템에 의해 각인된 디지털 워터마크를 포함하고 있지 않다고 지적했다.

한편 일부 공개된 사진들을 검토한 결과 모두 2018년 2월 날짜로 보이며, 당시 바이낸스는 당시 많은 양의 고객정보 요청을 처리하기 위해 KYC 검증을 위한 제3자 공급업체와 계약을 체결한 것으로 보인다.

따라서 정확한 유출 경로나 진위 여부가 불분명한 상태에서 바이낸스는 제3자 벤더와 함께 원인 규명에 나서고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

한편 바이낸스는 이번 해커 관련 정보 제공자에게는 제공된 데이터의 관련성에 따라 최대 25 BTC의 보상을 제공할 것이라고 밝혔다. https://support.binance.com.

Dear Binancians,

We would like to inform you that an unidentified individual has threatened and harassed us, demanding 300 BTC in exchange for withholding 10,000 photos that bear similarity to Binance KYC data. We are still investigating this case for legitimacy and relevancy. After refusing to cooperate and continuing with this extortion, this individual has begun distributing the data to the public and to media outlets.

First and foremost, there are inconsistencies when comparing this data to the data in our system. At the present time, no evidence has been supplied that indicates any KYC images have been obtained from Binance, as these images do not contain the digital watermark imprinted by our system. With that said, our security team is hard at work pursuing all possible leads in an attempt to identify the source of these images.

On initial review of the images made public, they all appear to be dated from February of 2018, at which time Binance had contracted a third-party vendor for KYC verification in order to handle the high volume of requests at that time. Currently, we are investigating with the third-party vendor for more information. We are continuing to investigate and will keep you informed.

We believe this is the same data set that was covered in previous news articles, such as: https://decrypt.co/4648/binance-kraken-exchange-data-haul. The hacker also claims he has KYC information from multiple exchanges. When asked to prove the source of the data, the individual demanded 300 BTC and refused to supply irrefutable evidence of their findings. Later, they went to the press under false pretenses, posing as a white hat with good intentions. The relevant law enforcement agencies have been contacted and we will be working closely with them to pursue this person.

If you are able to provide any information to help identify this person and allow us to pursue the individual through legal action, we will offer a reward of up to 25 BTC, dependent on the relevance of the data supplied. You may submit this information by opening a support ticket at https://support.binance.com.

Lastly, unrelated to this, please be wary of any fraudsters who may impersonate Binance customer service and request you to withdraw your funds.
