Iran's deputy minister of industry, Saeed Zarandi, accused the United States for trying to disrupt the mining of the virtual currency, amid an escalating U.S.-Iran confrontation over the abolition of the nuclear deal and the destruction of U.S. spy planes. The U.S. is concerned that Iran is using virtual currency to evade economic sanctions such as money laundering.

According to Iran's local media Al-Fars, Iran's deputy minister for industry, Saeed Zarandi, said the U.S. views virtual currency as a way of circumventing economic sanctions and a tool for money laundering, and that the U.S. Congress is reluctant so it is trying to disrupt the mining of virtual currencies in Iran's own country.

Iran is seeking new economic avoidance measures as it has been under pressure from the United States for the recent shooting down of an unmanned U.S. spy plane after a unilateral departure from a 2015 nuclear accord with the U.S. and appears to be considering virtual currency mining as part of it.

Iran, which had previously suggested plans to issue its own virtual currency under the influence of U.S. sanctions, was accused of using virtual currency to ease restrictions on access to the U.S. dollar to FinCEN last year.

Zarandi said he was considering measures with Iran's central bank to counter the attempts from the U.S.

In February this year, Iran's central bank issued a peg virtual currency, PayMon in Gold, which was not immediately available. So far, it is known that this currency is using Stella's network.

Currently, the Iranian government's legal position on the virtual currency is unclear. In some cases, 1,000 bitcoin mining machines were seized while issuing peg currency.
