World's First Shareholders Meeting on Blockchain Technology

At a shareholders' meeting on June 22nd, Japan's Asteria Corporation, which develops software, realized a voting system that applies blockchain technology to voting systems under the cooperation of Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank.

The shareholders' meeting will mark the first time that a blockchain voting system has been introduced in a real-life setting. By using digital tokens (rights card) issued on the Etherium blockchain basis, shareholders with voting rights used a system to record the pros and cons of a bill on the Internet on the blockchain.

At this shareholders meeting of Asteria Corporation, 9,307 shareholders with voting rights were automatically given digital tokens (rights certificates) based on the number of shares owned by them, and digital tokens (registration certificates) were used on blockchain to vote on the four agendas and 10 items presented to the shareholders' general meeting on time. It is the first time in the world that blockchain is employed at a formal shareholders' meeting on the voting rights system of listed companies.

Some characteristics of the voting system applied with blockchain technology used this time is as followed:

- Application of blockchain as a base technology

- Issuing voting rights (digital token-registration certificate) based on the number of shares of actual shareholders

- Multiple digital tokens can be issued simultaneously by bill.

- Counting of votes can be tallied in real time (the disclosure of the final tally is scheduled on the day of the General Assembly)

- The results of the vote count cannot be physically manipulated even by the members of the shareholders meeting.

- Can vote on PCs, smartphones, etc. without requiring special applications

- Voting is available 24 hours a day within the voting period.
