Estonia Creates Storage System to Disclose its Digital Solution Source Code

The Estonian government, which advocates digitalizing the government system, established a national digital code called, "Reportary" (Source Storage System) that allows public to use the source code of national digital solution such as software needed for "e-government"

All of Estonia's digital national solution source codes will be publicly available in this repository, except for confidential matters that may arise problems in the long term, such as security.

This source storage system is expected to be the first step in the realization of "Government as a Service" that facilitates the efficiency of private companies' system development or the construction of new projects by enabling people to reuse the code.

Estonian government said this move will help private companies and the government to find balance in knowing vast amounts of personal information such as GAFA (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple), adding that it aims to build a digital national solution based on the community in the long term by utilizing the digital national report system.
