A Russian Virus Has Been Detected in A Computer That Leaked 580 Billion Won Worth of Coin-check,Which is Highly Likely to Be Hacked by North Korea.

The Asahi News reported last January that a Russian hacker was involved in an investigation regarding the charge of hacking 580 billion won cryptocurrency fraud case after the Coin Check Exchange was hacked.

According to new information by multiple investigators, the virus used to steal a secret key from the computer at the Coincheck was actually a virus used among Russian hackers.

In January 2018, there was an illegal outflow of 580 billion won worth of cryptocurrency NEM from the Coincheck Exchange, the largest exchange in Japan, but the whole incident has not been solved to date and remains in limbo.

Sankei news reported in January of this year that some of the NEM hacked by other hackers were found to have tried to cash small amounts of bitcoin through overseas transactions, which were believed to have been secured by money laundering on the dark Web.

Meanwhile, on March 26th, Russian security firm Kaspersky Lab released a report on the latest trend of the Lazarus Group--North Korean hacker group.

A report by the U.N. Security Council also confirmed that North Korea is fraudulently acquiring foreign currency due to state-level cyberattacks to avoid tough economic sanctions, including the U.S. Also, with the presence of the Reconnaissance General Bureau, which oversees North Korean cyberattacks, the hacker group Lazarus Group is known to have been involved in the hacking of the Coincheck Exchange and Bithumb on the local exchange. With the new discovery of the virus mainly used by Russian hackers, investigators are trying to understand how these events are related.
