Mark Karpeles, ex. CEO of Mt. Gox, business embezzlement charges are not guilty, the manipulation of electronic records is a prison sentence

To Mark Karpeles, ex. CEO of a large cryptocurrency exchange, Mt. Gox, Tokyo District Court ruled on 15th that he was not guilty of business embezzlement, and sentenced to two and a half years in prison and four years in probation for manipulating electronic records.

Regarding the charges of business embezzlement, the Tokyo District Court said that is tis considerable to admit that there is a real possibility of repayment and acquitted the embezzlement.

On last December, Japanese prosecutor said the following, requesting a 10-year prison term with a court: “Mark Karpeles illegally acquired 340 million yen for personal use.”

Mt. Gox is a cryptocurrency exchange which in 2014 had 70% of worldly Bitcoin trade in 2014.

In February of the same year, ex. CEO Karpeles filed for bankruptcy protection saying: “The exchange was hacked and 850 thousand Bitcoins, worth 500 million dollars, were stolen.”
