'Malta Blockchain Summit' hits 8,500

It’s been an action packed first day at the Malta Blockchain Summit. From the launch of DLT legislation, to top speakers like John McAfee, the show hasn’t been short of surprises – or people, with 8,500 delegates turning out for the day.

Joseph Muscat, Prime Minister of Malta added prestige to the opening Regulatory Conference, dubbing the island an AI innovation hub. Muscat spoke of the huge potential block tech has brought the island, dubbing it an island of opportunity. He also gave his thoughts on the future of AI and its implications for society, saying, “We should do things the right way, using clear and sensible parameters.”

Also taking part in her own talk was Sophia the robot. Addressing an excited crowd, she said “What excites me most is the ability to connect a lot of decentralised projects into a decentralised network made up of decentralised networks – an ecosystem of ecosystems. She later appeared as part of a press conference hailing the creation of a new government task force to design a national strategy on AI. Malta’s commitment to a national strategy on AI puts it amongst the top 10 nations in the world to do so.

SingularityNET, the company behind Sophia’s AI will collaborate with Malta.ai on a pilot project to look into the feasibility of a citizenship test for robots.

Other big announcements came as the the ICO Pitch announced its first day winners. 19 ICOs battled it out for a share of the €100,000 prize, with Rise and AEToken crowned first and second place respectively. Round 2 starts tomorrow, so stay tuned to see who makes it to the top.

Cryptocurrency evangelist, business leader and activist John McAfee, also added to the growing buzz when he opened the Marketing and Investment Conference.
