Japan, Three Wise Monkeys analogy: don’t see, don’t listen, don’t tell

The Three Wise Monkeys : #coronavirus spreading fast in #Tokyo. With the number of cases surging over the past week (+162% from last Sunday, and that doesn’t include today’s numbers), one would expect testing to rise accordingly. It isn’t.

Yes, the overall total in #Japan’s capital (362) remains very low on an international basis. But the trend is extremely concerning, and more importantly, Tokyo is still testing less than 100 people per day. Only 2,269 over 2 months, in a city of more than 10 million.

What happened to the WHO’s message of “test, test, test and trace”? Why isn’t testing being increased in step with the surge?

It is now very clear that the numbers can only be the tip of the iceberg. Hence the Three Wise Monkeys analogy: don’t see, don’t listen, don’t tell.

In the meantime, people are being asked to “refrain” from leaving home, movie theaters and parks are closed... for the weekend. Are we really expected to go back to business as usual next week?
